Mildura Base Hospital have been an Adaptive Costing client of SyRis Consulting since 2003 and have participated in a number of benchmarking projects and reviews over this time. They have used the Adaptive Costing data on a quarterly basis since 2003 and have found a number of benefits through the use of the service, such as: - Identification of high cost prostheses use, with resulting contract negotiations and savings in excess of $100,000 per annum. - Correction of a number of VAED errors including ATSI errors, resulting in additional WIES. - Identification of high cost ambulance use resulting in the construction of arguments which led to improved funding outcomes - Isolation and analysis of the Emergency Department costs and profitability, leading to the construction of arguments and approved funding outcomes - Useful to observe Cost by VMO and LOS by doctor by specialty. This was used to discuss the performance of the orthopaedic clinicians. - Identified salaried anaesthetists doing private patients in public sessions and the business impact of this practice. - Issues with ophthalmology and ensuring that there is a level of private throughput to support the losses on public WIES funded throughput. From the continued use of the Adaptive Costing data, MBH has been able to participate in a number of Benchmarking projects which have been beneficial in: - Providing networking opportunities to discuss their data with similar sites in order to identify alternative models of care and business performance - Improving the allocation of HMO costs within the clinical costing data They have also recently installed the SyWIES10 program to calculate WIES on a daily basis, estimate the value of uncoded WIES and project the estimated throughput per day against the WIES target to the end of the year. |
