The Wind Turbine Message Kyneton, as a community, would be a lot better off without Large Scale Wind Turbines. If Kyneton was to focus on Community based initiatives and supported local power generation, it would have a much greater impact on reducing greenhouse gases and power consumption from the grid. Large Scale Wind Turbine Facilities do not produce the offsetting benefits that they claim. They claim that 35% of the capacity of the turbine is used to power houses, take cars off the road and plant trees. The reality is that only 8% of the capacity is used to offset the power produced by other generators in Australia. Large Scale Wind Turbines also do not pay for the full costs of their impact on the grid. Additional costs for ancillary backup and power management need to be paid by the causer of the costs. These issues remain unresolved and will be paid by the end consumer. To me, Large Scale Wind Turbine Installations are: - Environmentally destructive - Dividers of communities and destroyers of relationships and lives - Difficult to integrate into the Victorian grid and as a result, increase NEMMCO management costs, increase grid instability and only contribute 7-8% of turbine capacity - NOT 30-35% as claimed by Roaring40s. - A poor alternative in comparison to grid connected or off-grid local wind or solar power - A blight on the landscape for 25 years or more - Only good for big business, a few landholders (3 at Kyneton) and government spin merchants - A lost opportunity for the Kyneton community when we could be doing solar power and saving money for Victoria and the Kyneton rate payers - Absolutely the wrong way to go! Help us to turn this around though supporting our resistance to this community and environmental destruction by our council, the Victorian government and the Federal government. Please do your own research and convince yourself that large scale wind turbine facilities are, or are not worthwhile. My full opinion and supporting information can be found here.
