Your assistance is needed!

For the past four years I have been trying to understand the attraction of large scale wind turbine facilities, and I am still trying, but now believe that they are a fraud pushed on rural communities by federal and state governments, developers and retailers.

I have attached a solar panel versus wind turbine comparison of the end user cost of wind turbines versus off grid solar power to start the debate. It can be seen that with rebates, solar power actually comes up lower in cost than coal fired power (no wonder the government shelved that idea!)

Even the United Nations IPCC states that "An important aspect of the cost of electric power production is the transmission and distribution systems. According to IEA, approximately 55% of the capital cost of electric power systems is in the “wires” and only 45% is in the generation technology." Therefore local solar is superior to large scale wind! View the report here.

From my understanding, wind turbines have the same direct cost of a solar power system but have the following disadvantages:

- They destroy communities (from personal experience) see the damage caused so far

- They damage the environment (concrete footers, access roads, transmission lines)

- They kill bats and birds (Woolnorth wind turbine facility)

- They require back up power generators for when the wind doesn't blow

- Consumers are not accountable for their power use

Overall, the choice of wind power over solar power represents a lost opportunity to the Victorian community.

Please feel free to review this information and provide comment to help me understand why the Victorian Government wants to pursue this method at the expense of Victorian communities.
