The Damage So Far This article is designed to track and document the damage done so far to the Piper's Creek Community by the Wind Turbine consortium. 2003 David Hansen and wife (President of the Macedon Ranges Landscape Guardians) sell their property and move to Saudi Arabia after fighting Wind Power Inc for two years over the proposed Piper's Creek development. Cost: $40,000 (property devaluation, real estate agent costs) 2004 Murray and Jenny Stanwix decide not to build their house on Gooch's Lane due to the uncertainty around the Wind Turbines and instead buy a property near Kyneton. They still own the property on Gooch's Lane and are still waiting for the situation to be resolved. Cost: $60,000 (Purchase of additional property, retention of old property with cost of rates, etc) 2008 June After 5 years of uncertainty and misinformation about the possibility of turbines in the area, Brett Lindsay and Kathy Cisera decided to sell their property on Gooch's Lane and buy a house in the city. The original plan was to build a house on the property to maximise the view to the north, over the ridge line to Tooborac. They bought this property 10 years ago as it was next door to Kathy's parents property and was 5 kilometers away from her sister. She has now moved to Mt Waverley and has left the community. You can buy the property here. Cost: $70,000 (Purchase of additional property, property devaluation, capital gains tax on sale) 2008 August, updated November 2008 Graham and Anneke Cisera moved to Kyneton from Mildura 18 years ago. Graham was a maths/science teacher at Kyneton High School and Anneke was a teacher at Heathcote and Tylden. Graham hand built the house they now live in from the local granite using passive solar heating techniques. The house has been build across the hill to maximise the views to the north from Pastoria to Tooborac. These views can be seen from every room. In this view, Transfield and Roaring 40s plan to construct 180 wind turbines. The property is now for sale through Biggin & Scott, Kyneton. If you would like you can buy the property here. There have been no serious bids for the property, despite it being on the market for 2 months. This may be due to the economic climate or the uncertainty caused by the wind turbine developments. Cost: $100,000 (Real estate agent's costs ($35,000), devaluation of property, stamp duty on purchase of additional property) 2008 Now that Kathy (Maree's sister) and Graham and Anneke (Maree's parents) have decided to sell their properties, we are considering our alternatives and looking for other houses, far away from the turbines. This will be yet another loss to the Kyneton community, the Kyneton Hospital Board and the local schools. Cost: $100,000 (Real estate agent's costs ($35,000), devaluation of property, stamp duty on purchase of additional property) This is all for the financial advantage of 3 landholders, AT WHAT COST? So far I would estimate $300,000 and climbing This does not include the lost productivity of people like myself working to restore some sanity to this situation. It does not include the lost opportunity of people like Brett and Kathy or Murray and Jenny who have chosen not to move into the area and develop their properties. The council needs to get on board with this to protect their residents, and not sell them out to big business.
